A Start On Halloween/Fall Decor ( Photo Heavy )
So I started decorating. Not quite the result I wanted, but after looking through what I have, I made do with the best of it. I decided to go with the witches broom theme. Would you believe that I still have 3 boxes full of fall and halloween decor left? I will be making some changes to this mantle as time goes on. Mainly I will be painting the pumpkins a softer color to go with the theme I really want. I wanted to use more picture frames, but none of the larger ones I have are painted and I don't have time to paint today.
I copied the idea from Inspired By Charm's decor last year. If you click on the link, you will see his wonderful chalkboard wall. I would LOVE to have that!
I called mine Bewitched Broom Inc. My chalkboard is a bit smaller, so I had to tone it down. I do have a large glass frame waiting to be done with chalkboard paint. I may get that done before Halloween and change it out. I can get a bigger better effect with that.
I used one of my vintage yard stick ladders in the vignette. Just for fun and because I wanted to add it to my decor.
Gotta have a pumpkin under glass - this is one that will be spray painted and embellished a bit.
As will this one. As I look at the photo, I see that I need to add some sort of raffia or moss to the urn.
Two of my witches brooms. I really wanted to buy a crooked broom to add, but I just found a whole bunch of raffia I got at the thrift shop for a quarter and think I may get a twig from the yard and make my own.
I made this witches had about 5 years ago. I placed it in in my floral setting. I usually display it on a large spool, and may just do that later.
This is on my coffee table. I love the yarn pumpkins.
So this is what I have so far....
I am not sure I am going to do too much more around the house. I really want to remain simple this year. I am not sure why I feel this way. I love decorating. I am not sure if has to do with my mother being gone and we will be approaching the 1 year anniversary of her passing in December. I can't believe that it is only 2 months away and she has been gone this long already. This has been a difficult year and maybe I will feel it more next year. I have so many things I want to get in order, get rid of and refresh with my own crafts that I have been working on this past year. I want my decor to reflect on what I make myself and incorporate it into my personal decor to show the uses of it. The other thing is, we will be tearing up all the carpet in our livingroom and possibly kitchen before Christmas and I really don't want a bunch of stuff all over the place. We are putting in pergo like flooring. Which will also make things look more simplistic. I am hoping once it is finished, I may want to do a holiday open house in my home showing off my wares. The other thing I really want to work on is our livingroom furniture. The foundation of the furniture is great, but the fabric on the furniture leaves a lot to be desired. I may invest in slipcovers because like I said, the cushions are comfortable and we just don't have the money to replace a whole living room suit.
With all of that said....time will tell what I will do ...
