| My Mom's Chocolate Chip Recipe |
So, I headed over to my parent's cottage this morning to bake those cookies my mom left in the freezer. They were chocolate chip and snickerdoodle (see above recipes). I did everything just the way mom did. Each recipe made about 4 dozen cookies each. (Notice the chip recipe says makes 7 dozen...well I guess I didn't do it just like mom, I made mine bigger - oops!)
My sister was not there this morning. My dad sent her out on a Christmas gift run. You see, my mom gave my dad a list of things she needed to get at the last minute the night she went into the hospital on December 6th. She had the list in her purse. It was mostly things for my brother and a few things for Sweet Melody.
After the cookie baking, my youngest son needed some help getting Sweet Melody her presents and asked me to go to Target with him. We made the trip and he was successful with some cute gifts for his little niece. I also was successful in getting Mr H's gifts!!! I also finished up some Christmas brunch food shopping along with the main meal for the afternoon on Tuesday.
Mr H and I later in the afternoon, early evening headed into the mall!!! We could not believe how empty it was! We did not have to wait in line for any purchases and also found parking right near the door. We thought for sure it would be wall to wall people, taking forever to get anything purchased. We did not complain and Mr H let me pick out some of my Christmas gifts. He also bought himself some goodies as well.
I am happy to say that all the shopping is finished, the presents are wrapped and under the tree and I also wrapped Michael's present for Sweet Melody for him to pick up tomorrow. I had one last gift to get and that is for my dad. An idea struck me and Mr H can go pick it up tomorrow.
All that is left is to make the breakfast stratas tomorrow night to put in the fridge to set overnight before putting them in the oven on Christmas morning.
Unfortunately I have to work tomorrow til 4pm.....I am a bit scared to go in, as I know there will be hugging and crying as my co workers have not seen me yet since my mother passed a few days ago. I am hoping to be so busy the time flies by and I will be home ready to get my Christmas on!!!
I am sure my mother was with me in spirit today to help me finish up what I needed to do at the last minute.
I just realized I have one more thing to do before I go to bed and off to dreamland it will be. That alarm clock will go off too soon I can feel it!!!
Merry Christmas Eve tomorrow as I know I won't have a chance to be on here to write.

Dear Laurie,
I am ashamed that i have not been here the last couple weeks - I knew your mother was ailing but I didn't read where she had passed.
YOU HAVE MY CONDOLENCES AND PRAYERS...from reading your last two posts you have it under control - you are strong that's for sure.
It also sounded as if your mother 'knew'...they say we do know sometimes and she must have...as prepared as she was (although it sounds as if that's the kind of lady she was)...how wonderful that you are keeping the tradition of brunch going. I would as well.
And baking those cookies - imagine, she was the last one to touch them/make the dough before you...how blessed to be able to finish her work.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY...it will be a sad one but I can just imagine you all sitting around talking abut the 'good times' and not the sad ones.
Hugs,
Karen
