Anna Mae and I wanted to make some old fashioned Victorian style Halloween cones and ornaments. We have discovered through trial and error, how to do this better next time! Meanwhile, these cones are awaiting some orange filler and sweet treats or maybe a spider and bat or two to adorn the inside and tops of these cones. Also pictured are some spool ornaments that were also decorated in Halloween style!
What we have learned is that we need some sort of form to wrap the paper around to glue and secure. We downloaded and printed some templates to use as a guide and when we started to wrap them around to glue, it was not an easy task. We also need to use a better glue. We used good old Elmers and I think we need a tackier glue that will adhere more quickly. Also, using a cone shaped form may also make it easier to get a cleaner wrap and seams. So, we shall make more of these, but have a better system in place.
The spool ornaments were no problem! It is amazing what embellishments we have collected from our yard sale and thrift shop finds. Buttons, beads, chenille and lace.
So now our mission is to get some cone shaped forms, find some orange and black filler to finish these guys and make new ones!
We will also be making similar ones using Christmas paper and accessories. We are amassing quite a collection of Victorian everyday and holiday style spool ornaments. They are fun to make and fun to decorate with!
I was just thinking, how cool would it be to display these Halloween cones and ornaments on an old spray painted black twig tree! I may have to venture out to the back yard and gather sticks and cement into an old black bucket and spray paint the branches to make it look like an eerie, spooky Halloween tree.....
The wheels are always turning!
Have a great day!!!
